Summary
Independent work of students (IWS) is not just one of the ways to acquire knowledge, but one of the main principles of higher education at the present stage.
Key words: Independent work, orientation of choice, creative activity, practical exercises, cognitive , scientific activities.
The modern specialist has a fairly wide range of requirements, among which the graduates have certain abilities and the ability to independently acquire knowledge from various sources, systematize the information received, and assess the specific situation. The formation of this skill occurs during the entire period of study through the participation of students in practical exercises, the implementation of control tasks and tests, writing of course and final qualifying works. In this case, the independent work of students (IWS) plays a crucial role during the whole educational process.
At the present stage of democratization and humanization of society, the expansion of human rights and freedoms raising the independence of the younger generation acquires special significance.

Higher education institutions have the opportunity to not only educate, but also purposefully develop inherent in each person the creative beginning.
Independent work of students (IWS) is not just one of the ways to acquire knowledge, but one of the main principles of higher education at the present stage. Independent work is a mandatory integral part of a holistic learning process, which is organized, directed, regulated and monitored by the educational process based on state standard, in which more hours are allocated for independent work than for classroom instruction. Therefore, one of the priority and most effective ways to increase quality education is the organization of the CDS.
All types of active cognitive and scientific activities require independent searches. Independent work not only should not be opposed to lectures, but on the contrary, lectures should be considered as the most important tool for stimulating it. Independent work should be recognized by the student as a necessary element of their own development.
The main types of motivation for independent work of students are distinguished:
- External motivation — the dependence of professional career on the results of study at the university. Unfortunately, this factor is still not working effectively, but in the trend the solution of this issue seen in the near future.
- Internal motivation — the student’s inclinations, his ability to study at the university. It can be controlled in the period of pre-university training by the use of tests when choosing a specialty that is justified recommendations in determining the direction of education, etc.
- Procedural (training) motivation. Manifested in the understanding of the student utility It requires a student’s psychological adjustment to the importance of the work being done, as in terms of professional training, and in terms of expanding the horizons, specialist knowledge. Required convincingly show (prove) that the CPC results will help him better understand the lecture material,
laboratory work, etc.
The big effect is the inclusion of tasks on the CDS as part of the coursework, and especially in the graduation project, and this can be done quite early — at one of the undergraduate courses.
Active independent work of students is possible only if there is a serious and sustainable motivation. The strongest motivating factor is preparation for further effective professional activity.
The activity of the teacher on the organization of independent work of students. The teacher forms the content, plans, organizes, directs, controls independent work students.
- Formation of the content of independent work of students.
The teacher forms the content of students’ independent work in accordance with
requirements of state educational standards and programs.
Formation of the content of independent work includes:
- determination and justification of the necessary minimum of sections, topics of questions, tasks submitted to classroom and extracurricular independent work of students;
- determination of the content and scope of theoretical educational information and practical tasks on each topic that are submitted for independent work;
- selection and suggestion of methods and forms of independent work of students in accordance with modern learning technologies;
- determination of forms and methods of control over the performance of independent tasks by students;
- development of criteria for evaluating the results of extracurricular independent work, taking into account requirements for the level of training of students defined by Statestandart. The volume of independent work of students is determined by the state educational standard. Independent work of students is mandatory for each student and is determined by the educational plan.
In determining the content of independent work of students should consider the level independence of applicants and the requirements for the level of independence of graduates in order to the training period for the desired level has been reached.
- Planning students’ independent work — planning the amount of time spent on
extracurricular independent work on academic discipline according to the State Standard and curriculum.
- Organization of independent work of students:
determination of organizational forms of independent work of students in accordance with the content academic discipline, the schedule of the educational process, the curriculum, with features of the student audience, individual characteristics of students;
- providing students with information, lists of special literature and other sources;
- ensuring the schedule of independent work;
- providing a consultation schedule;
- providing methodological developments for self-study;
- provision of information and methodological materials (work program discipline, methodical instructions, tasks for self-control, etc.);
- provision of criteria for assessing the quality of one or another form of independent work.
- The management of students’ independent work — consultations are held at the expense of the general budget time allotted for the classroom work of the teacher.
The volume and content of the CDS should correspond to the total number of hours for this course and it is focused whenever possible on a specialty of the student.
The article discusses examples of determining the scope and content of assignments for courses in control theory, signals and systems, etc. for the specialty of telecommunications engineering, as well as the organization and methodology for conducting CPC.
